About Us
In 2019, Alicia, Magaly and Vanessa brought together their talents and hospitality expertise to create Qoyas NYC. The name is a tribute to their roots, heritage and culture, as Qoyas means ‘Queens' in Quechua, the Inca’s language. The company was initially focused on catering, pop-up events and private chef at home. For its debut, they partnered up with La Pulperia UES to host a successful brand activation event that gathered over 70 attendees. Later that year, the Qoyas took over the streets and headed to the Queens night market as food vendors.
2020 came with a lot of expectations for Qoyas’ expansion. Among the plans were to host pop-up events, cooking classes and have a stand in other street food markets. But the pandemic hit NYC and plans were put at halt. Alicia and Vanessa focused on making contingency plans for their tourism and hospitality businesses in Peru, while Magaly began doing freelance services and an entrepreneurship project with her 12-year-old daughter, selling Peruvian alfajores.
As they navigated the first 6 months of the pandemic and faced several challenges that were eye-opening, they realized that they couldn’t let their dream of bringing authentic Peruvian flavors to NYC die. This is how in this “new normal” they saw an opportunity, which was a new service format, a delivery-only virtual restaurant, also known as a ghost kitchen. This concept is very popular in the West Coast and it continues to expand all over the country, as it’s a great alternative for chefs and restaurateurs looking to bring their food to more people, at a lower and more affordable cost compared to owning a full-service restaurant.
That’s how Qoyas NYC Peruvian Cuisine was born, the first Peruvian virtual kitchen in NYC, located in the heart of Midtown. This virtual kitchen is supported by technology, offers a diverse menu, and contactless delivery, and operates under new biosafety protocols. It seeks to differentiate itself from its competitors by sticking to its roots and making sure to keep the traditional flavors alive.
Qoyas NYC Peruvian Cuisine brings to New York the taste of home, tradition, history, not only culinary history thanks to the diverse gastronomic influence that Peru has, but also the history that each of these dishes evoke in the memories of each of the Qoyas. The motto behind this Peruvian ghost kitchen is to deliver a unique Peruvian culinary experience. “Our goal is to deliver an authentic culinary experience, and that for everyone who tries our food to go on a gastronomic journey to Peru through each bite of intense and traditional flavors they taste.”
